Utilities tool

CSV column mapper and import-template builder

Rename, reorder and select CSV columns, add constants and report missing required values.

Your inputs

Upload takes priority over pasted text. UTF-8, 2 MB, 10,000 rows, 200 columns.
No header. Quote names containing commas. Blank source creates a constant column.

How it works

Select, rename and reorder columns from a parsed CSV, and add constant columns. Required destination fields get a row-level missing-value report. Values remain strings, including leading zeroes.

A few things to know

No type inference or third-party import validation. Rejects empty/duplicate headers and inconsistent widths. Limits: 2 MB, 10,000 rows, 200 columns; uploaded files take priority. Formula-prefixing changes exported text and is configurable.

A little context

When to use this tool

A delimiter converter can make valid CSV readable without making its columns match the receiving system. This mapper changes that schema deliberately: select the source column for each destination name, arrange destinations in the order you need, and add constant fields where appropriate. It keeps cell contents as strings, so a code such as 00123 stays distinct from 123. A separate report identifies blank required values. It does not invent product information or certify an import template. Start with a small sanitized export and verify it in the destination before transforming a full file.

  • Rename supplier columns to a receiving import template.
  • Keep only the selected fields and put them in a required order.
  • Add a constant status column and identify missing required values.

How to use csv column mapper and import-template builder

  1. Supply the original CSV

Paste comma, semicolon or tab-separated text or upload one UTF-8 file. Upload takes priority. Select whether a source header exists; without one, use Column 1, Column 2 and so on.

  2. Declare destination mappings

Enter one destination, source, constant CSV row per output column, without a header. Use an exact source name or leave Source empty to insert Constant. Quote names containing commas. List required destination names separately.

  3. Review both downloads

Check the mapped preview and missing-value count. Download mapped-columns.csv and the missing-required-values report. Formula protection adds apostrophes only to downloads; disable it only when exact cell values are needed.

Try the numbers

Rename a product export

Inputs

Product name and Item code become Title and SKU; add Status with constant active. Require Title and SKU.

Result

Two output records contain Notebook,00123,active and Pen,00456,active. Three destination columns and zero missing required values are reported.

What it means

The leading zeroes belong to the identifier and survive mapping. No price, type or receiving-platform validation has been performed.

Common mistakes to avoid

Treating a blank source as an empty value

Blank Source selects the Constant field; it does not search for a blank-named source column.

Duplicating destination names

Repeated or empty destination names fail because their meaning would be ambiguous.

Assuming required values are filled

Required checks only report blank cells; they do not substitute defaults or reject the whole transformed file.

Frequently asked questions

Definitions, edge cases, and practical next steps for this tool. Search all tool FAQs ↗

How is this different from CSV repair?

CSV repair changes delimiter and quoting conventions. This tool selects, renames and reorders complete columns, with constant columns and required-value reporting.

Can I preserve leading zeroes?

Yes. Values remain strings. In a spreadsheet, import identifier columns as text too; the receiving application can still remove zeroes if it guesses a number type.

What if the source has no header?

Choose No for the header setting and reference Column 1, Column 2 and so on in your mapping. The first record then remains data.

Can destination names contain commas?

Yes, quote that mapping cell using CSV quoting. Embedded quotation marks must be doubled. The destination name remains one column.

What counts as a missing required value?

A cell that is empty after trimming for the check is reported. Its original whitespace is preserved in the output; the checker does not rewrite it.

Why are my exported cells prefixed with apostrophes?

Formula protection is enabled by default for spreadsheet review. It changes suspicious exported text, including negative-number-looking strings. The preview retains original values.

Which input limits apply?

Each source is limited to 2 MB, 10,000 data records and 200 columns. Output beyond the shared 8 MB export bound is rejected rather than allocated without limit.

Will the result import into Shopify or another service?

You supply the receiving schema. This does not validate platform-specific product rules, types or changing templates; test a small import in the actual destination.

Common questions

Where do I start? Try an example, then replace its values with yours.

Why did my upload fail? Check the field error, accepted format and file-size limit. Start with a small sanitized sample.

Where are my results? Review the result panel, then use its copy or download controls. If a calculation fails, check the error beside the input.
