A few things to know

A mailto link asks an installed email client to open a draft. No mail is sent. BCC addresses remain visible in the link source. Internationalized domains must first be converted to ASCII.

A little context

When to use this tool

Create an email draft link with correctly escaped query fields. Ampersands, spaces and line breaks have different meanings in a URI, so encode them before putting the link on a page.

  • Create a contact link.
  • Prepare a support subject.
  • Add a contact link to a signature.

How to use mailto link builder

  1. Prepare the inputs

Enter recipients and optional copy recipients.

  2. Choose the settings

Write the subject, body and visible link text.

  3. Review and export

Copy the URI or escaped anchor; test it in your email client.

Frequently asked questions

Definitions, edge cases, and practical next steps for this tool. Search all tool FAQs ↗

Does this send email?

No. It generates a link that may open a draft in a configured email application.

Can I include several recipients?

Yes, comma-separate up to 50 ASCII-domain email addresses per recipient field.

Are BCC addresses private?

No. Anyone inspecting the link can read them; avoid embedding private mailing lists.

How are line breaks encoded?

Body line endings are normalized to CRLF and percent encoded.

Why is an ampersand encoded?

An unencoded ampersand separates query fields and would change the message.

Does every browser have a mail app?

No. The visitor needs an email handler; include a visible address as a fallback.

Are my inputs uploaded or stored?

Processing happens locally in your browser. This tool does not upload inputs. Downloads stay on your device; sharing or opening them in another service is your choice.

What should I check before using the output?

A mailto link asks an installed email client to open a draft. No mail is sent. BCC addresses remain visible in the link source. Internationalized domains must first be converted to ASCII.
