How it works
Compare monetary amounts on exact record keys, using integer cents rather than floating-point equality. Export within-tolerance matches, discrepancies and unmatched records, with currency-specific totals for the one declared currency.
A few things to know
Does not validate bookkeeping, connect banks, exchange currencies or merge duplicate IDs. Two-decimal amounts only, without symbols or grouping. Each file capped at 2 MB / 10,000 rows. Uploaded files take priority. Declare currency; optional currency columns enforce it.
Results use your inputs. Keep all money amounts in the same currency.
When to use this tool
Reconciliation of two supplied exports starts with a clear matching rule and a declared amount convention. This tool compares exact string keys, rejects duplicates, preserves refund signs and calculates differences with integer cents. A tolerance can classify small differences as within range, but it does not erase them from the detail or totals. The declared currency applies to the whole comparison; optional currency columns enforce it. Category downloads make unmatched records and discrepant amounts visible. A matched result is a comparison of those exports, not certification that the accounts are correct.
- Compare invoice amounts between two exported systems.
- Identify exact-key records with amount discrepancies.
- Separate missing records on each side for investigation.
How to use csv amount reconciliation
Supply two comma-separated exports
Paste or upload each source with unique nonempty keys and two-decimal amounts. Uploaded files take priority independently.
Set columns, currency and tolerance
Enter exact key and amount header names, one uppercase three-letter currency and a nonnegative tolerance. An optional shared currency header checks every row.
Review category and totals downloads
Inspect matches within tolerance, amount differences and left/right-only records. Difference is left minus right, including signed refunds.
A one-cent difference plus missing records
Inputs
Left has 001=100, 002=−5 and 003=20. Right has 001=99.99, 002=−5 and 004=10, all USD; tolerance 0.00.
Result
One matched record, one amount discrepancy and one record missing from each side. Left total is 115.00, right total 104.99, net difference 10.01.
What it means
The one-cent discrepancy remains visible. A 0.01 tolerance would include it as a match without changing either total.
Common mistakes to avoid
Converting keys to numbers
001 and 1 are distinct exact keys; numeric coercion can match the wrong records.
Ignoring duplicate IDs
V1 rejects duplicates instead of silently picking one or aggregating them.
Combining different currencies
No exchange rate is fetched. Supply one currency per run and use currency columns to enforce it.

How are decimal amounts compared?
They are parsed into integer cents and subtracted exactly. Up to two fractional digits are accepted, without symbols, grouping separators or exponent notation.
Does tolerance include its boundary?
Yes. An absolute difference equal to the entered tolerance is classified within tolerance. The numeric difference remains in the detail.
What is the sign of the difference?
Left minus right. A positive result means the supplied left amount is higher; negative refunds keep their signs.
Are totals changed by tolerance?
No. Totals use original supplied amounts. Tolerance changes only the classification of records present on both sides.
Can duplicate keys be aggregated?
Not in v1. Each side needs unique keys. Choose and document an aggregation rule outside the tool before providing such an export.
How are unmatched records represented?
The absent-side amount is blank, while its contribution to the overall arithmetic is zero. Separate category exports retain the record and signed difference.
Why do negative numbers get apostrophes in CSV?
Spreadsheet-oriented exports prefix formula-like text. The prefix is part of exported text, not a changed arithmetic amount; import and review the output deliberately.
Does a match prove my books are reconciled?
No. It only compares the supplied keys and amounts. Completeness, accounting classification, settlement timing and reconciliation policy remain separate checks.
